| Green tea is the oldest known form of tea and has less caffeine than black teas. Green tea is processed by not allowing the leaves to oxidize and instead either steaming or pan-firing them. The name of a green tea often reflects the region it was grown in, or the estate where it was produced. Green tea names can also describe the shape the leaves have been pressed or rolled into.
Green tea can be bitter if not steeped properly. A good rule of thumb is the lower the quality, the hotter the water needs to be and the longer the tea has to steep to produce a good brew. If a high quality tea is used, it can be resteeped several times before the leaves must be discarded. Multiple infusions are but one of many benefits offered by green tea. Green tea has been said to be an effective weight loss aide, as well as being healthier for the heart due to its' lower caffeine conent. |
